Organizations: Running Multiple Brands or Business Units From One Account

5 min read

Most DisplayNyx workspaces only ever need one organization, and it's created for you automatically the moment you sign up - stores, screens, and everything else just lives there. But some operators run more than one distinct brand or business unit under a single company: a franchise owner with two different concepts, a holding company running several independent chains, a healthcare group operating two hospital networks under different names. Organizations exist for exactly that shape of business.

What an organization actually is

An organization is a layer above your stores - think of it as a franchise brand, a hospital network, or a business unit, rather than a single physical location. One DisplayNyx account (one login, one bill) can contain as many organizations as your business actually has. Each one gets its own stores, screens, playlists, media, and team, cleanly separated from every other organization in the same account.

What stays locked to one organization

Stores, screens, and playlists each belong to exactly one organization, chosen once when they're created and never changed afterward. That's deliberate: it means a screen registered under one franchise brand can only ever be paired to stores from that same brand - there's no accidental mixing of one group's locations with another's, and no chance of one brand's promo landing on a different group's screens.

What can span more than one

Media, labels, and team members are more flexible, since some things genuinely belong to more than one part of the business. A logo pack or a company-wide safety notice can be tagged to multiple organizations at once. A regional director can be given access to every organization they actually oversee, while a site-level manager only ever sees the one they're hired for - their login simply doesn't show the others.

A concrete example

Say your company runs two franchise concepts - a coffee chain and a sandwich chain - under one corporate account. Each becomes its own organization: the coffee chain's dozen locations, screens, and playlists live entirely separately from the sandwich chain's. Corporate leadership signs in once and switches between both from the same dashboard. A franchise manager hired to run only the sandwich chain's rollout, though, only ever sees that organization - the coffee chain doesn't show up for them at all.

Getting started

Every workspace already has a default organization with your existing stores and screens in it - nothing changes until you decide you need more than one. If you do run multiple brands or groups, add an organization for each from Organizations in the dashboard, then assign new stores, screens, and team members to the right one as you build them out. There's always at least one organization in every workspace, so you'll never end up with nowhere to put a store or screen.
